LITTLE STOMPER – Orange Wine 2023

When you foot stomp directly in barrels you need small feet to help you. Our families and friends provide no end of ‘little stompers’ to help. No surprise then the resulting wine is an amalgam of old and new knowledge.

VINEYARD

A small vineyard 83 Church Road, only growing Gewurztraminer, a heavenly place.

In conversion to BioGro.

SOIL

Free draining gravel soils with a windblown loess topsoil.

VITICULTURE

Managed using Organic practices and in conversion.

HARVEST

Clean grapes: Gewurztraminer (Gew), with no botrytis, hand harvested the third week of April.

VINIFICATION

Two vats, 100% whole bunch, natural yeast, and malo-lactic bacteria and where each vat was handled very gently by wetting the cap daily from the fermenting juice in each vat.  Both vats were on skins for 31 days AND then gently pressed with a basket press. Handled by gravity only, never pumped.

BOTTLING

Bottled October 2023 no additions or filtration; ‘a la Natural’

Only very low levels of sulphur have been used.
